The Fruits of the Summer

It's the last day of August.

Finally. They are ripening.

This has been a short summer after a late spring. These tomatoes are from the patio garden we have. The cherry tomatoes have been doing well for a few weeks. The beefsteaks- not so good.

That's why we've been bringing them in while green and letting them ripen on the windowsill. We actually lost the first tomato because it rotted before it ripened.

But the wonder of that strong smell when you first pick the fruit. Then that squish as you bite into the tomato. The cherry tomatoes are like a vegetarian candy.

Haven't had a ripe beefsteak yet. But one of those above there is just about ready. Maybe tonight?
