What Mortals We Fools Be

Was watching the headlines on one of the evening "entertainment news" programs. They talked about a show that was on Animal Planet that broke records for viewership of the cable channel. The gist of the special was that "they" have found evidence for the existence of mermaids.

They were supposedly interviewing a Dr. Paul Robertson and showing footage of the real thing.

It was all fake.

Some people believed it.

Animal Planet did not make it clear that it was a fake, a "mockumentary", although I guess there was a disclaimer at the end, though short.

It has been 73 years since Orson Welles scared the stuffing out of many people with a radio drama of the "War of the Worlds."

I am amazed at how easily people still believe what isn't true.

Oh wait a minute. That's right. We still believe politicians, too.
