She's a Grand Old Flag

It doesn't look all that impressive when set against a city skyline

but let's be honest, it is still quite a sight. It's about what it stands for. It is but a symbol. It has history in the stripes and the present in the stars. It is the icon of the land of the free and the home of the brave.

We have fought about it, over it, and for it. People wear it as jewelry or clothing add-ons. We think it means more than it does- and in reality it means far more than we are able to grasp.

No, I am not trying to sentimentalize or make it more than it is. A flag is cloth- but it is our flag and it is about who we are. Celebrate it today- and celebrate our hope and diversity.
