That One?
While neither campaign can be lauded for staying on the High Road, I am having real difficulty with the McCain-Palin approach recently. Three sets of approaches have bothered me.
First was Palin's challenge that Obama is "palling around with terrorists," a reference to college professor and one time SDS/Weatherman Bill Ayers with whom he served on a committee. (Guilt by association. Perhaps serving in the Senate with convicted felons makes one a felon?) But the tag of it is the scariest- Obama is not one of us.
Not one of us? You've got to be kidding. The undercurrent of racism and un-patriotic charges against a member of the US Senate and presidential candidate are almost unforgiveable. It may say more about Governor Palin's attitudes than it does about Obama.
Which leads to the second example, the ongoing approach from Sen. McCain that says "Who is the real Barack Obama?" It just carries the same "not one of us" idea one step further. Obama is secretive- like perhaps a spy- seeking to ingratiate himself into our country so he can tear it down?
The final straw was in the debate Tuesday night. I did not see it when it happened, but I heard about it and was floored. Senator McCain referred, in debate, in his opponent's presence, to Senator Obama as "That One." A put-down? Lowering of the debate to personal attack? It made me quite upset. But then I learned of a new website, ThatOne08. I guess if you are handed something this unique, why not put it to good use.

It's more than guilt by association, in my opinion. The relationships with Ayers, Rezko, and Wright are not casual. They speak to character, and character is important.
Would you prefer "The One", to "that one"?
Bless you, brother.
So Harry Truman, having starting out with the Mo. mafia, was not a good president? Politics, unfortunatley, (McCain, Keating 5) are played that way in the USA, or for that matter in any country. The test is how you have changed and what you do with that change. (remember various infidelifies with past presidents and women, Carter exempt)-----DC
