The Twins- The White Sox- Move On

Who would have thought it would be a pitcher's game into the 7th? At which point you know that it won't take much to change the game. Blackburn (Twins) pitched beautifully into the bottom of the 7th and then gave up a lead-off home run. Then with two on and one out he left the game. For the Twins it was up to the bullpen.

[Sidenote: Watching people sitting behind home plate talking on their cells and then waving to whoever they are talking to on the home TV. Odd.]
The Twins get out of that inning down by one run with two left for them to get into the post-season.

But they can do nothing in the top of the 8th. They bring in Joe Nathan- the closer- in the bottom of the 8th with two outs. Inning over. The Twins have one more chance. The White Sox are three outs away from the division championship.

The Sox bring in their closer- Bobby Jenks.
Kubel strikes out.
Span grounds out to first. The season is about to end for the Twins. A surprising season. Who would have thought they would be here today.
Casilla flies out to center. Game over. Sox win 1 - 0.

A game worthy of a tie-breaker. Close. Pitching excellent. Two quality teams.

All on a coin-toss, perhaps. The location could have been Minneapolis if the coin toss had gone differently and it might have been a different result.

In any case, the Twins gave us a great season. They hung in there, played very good ball all season long, never gave up. A young team that wasn't supposed to be anywhere near the top with some quality stars to hold them together. What more can you ask for?

Thanks, Twins. See you next year.
