A Purple Post
I have to admit that I really like Mental Floss Blog (as some of you may have noticed.) This is especially true when I am coming up with a bunch of posts for while I am on vacation. (Which means they have been pre-posted.) In any case, I found a list of 11 Things about Carver County Minnesota's most famous musician, Prince. While the list was titled 11 Things We Just Learned About Prince, those of us who have been fortunate enough to have lived in Carver Co. (I was only minutes from Paisley Park) will find some of the information redundant. Anyway, follow the link and you will find things like:
2. Prince is his real name. Born to two musical parents on June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Prince Rogers Nelson was named after his father’s jazz combo. One that they did not include was that Prince's magnificent album, Purple Rain was named by Entertainment Weekly as the #1 Record That Rocked in the past 25 years. They said:
9. He simultaneously held the number 1 spots for film, single and album. During the week of July 27, 1984, Prince’s film Purple Rain hit number one at the box office. At the same time, “When Doves Cry,” was holding the top spot as both an album and a single. Talk about the best week ever.
Prince's magnum opus, however, is a bona fide diamond — and one of the most artistically out-there achievements in pop history.
