Safest Streets Where You Don't Expect Them

Real Clear Politics posted a story last week about the safest cities in the US. Going against all supposed conventional wisdom #1 is New York City! Right behind was San Jose, CA and Los Angeles. We tend to think of big cities as hot beds of crime, but as I remember the stats over the recent years, New York truly is generally one of the safest cities around.

As long as you know where you are, where you're going, and stay away from the dangerous places. Pretty good advice any place.

(Actually, even safer than you would expect- they have turned Times Square into a pedestrian mall. No traffic. Lawn chairs. What will they think of next?)
