A 40-year Memory: Early Demise Proven False

On this date in 1972, the National weather service issued it's (supposed) last bulletin on Hurricane Agnes. It had made landfall in Florida and weakened. It was not to be any more of a danger to anyone.

Sorry to say they were wrong as it became the most costly hurricane/tropical storm through that time. Within the next 5 days its rains would drench the northeast and turn rivers into RIVERS! I was there in north central Pennsylvania as it happened. Somewhere in my closet of boxes I have some pictures I took at the time. I doubt I will be able to find them in time for this 40-year anniversary.
