Either side- MLB or the Players' Union- can fire an arbitrator at will, it seems. Since no arbitrator has ever overturned a ban before, no one knew what MLB might do if one did.

Now we know.

He was the longest serving arbitrator, serving since 1999. One little mistake, like disagreeing with MLB, can sure end your job, it appears.
