Even Spring Gets Leaped

Surfing the web yesterday I came across a bit of trivia that I hadn't realized. I wasn't going to post about the first day of spring yesterday since, well, in my neck of the woods it is more like summer Up Nort' here in Tropical Minnesota. But then I found out that this was the earliest Vernal Equinox (start of spring) since 1896! According to Space.com it came in at 1:14 EDT on Tuesday morning. Which, they point out, means that in the Mountain and Pacific Time Zones it actually arrived on March 19!

The reason for such an early spring? The Leap Year added a day, otherwise the day would be today.

Now, wasn't that worth waiting until today to find out?
