A Side Note on the Immigration Debate
Sci-Fi master Frederik Pohl has a short and profound comment on his blog, The Way the Future Blogs that was posted in September. In light of the push and shove of the GOP debate the other evening, I find it quite appropriate.
His comment is simply to quote a few lines from a poem that is attached to a statue standing in New York Harbor.
Give me your tired, your poorHe then ends with his own punchline.
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
If that isn’t our policy, what sort of hypocrites are we?
