Land of the Free

Voter discouragement.

That's what partisans on both sides attempt to do in places where a race is highly contested. Scaring voters, challenging voters, removing voters from voting lists. Anything that will keep people from going to the polls and possibly voting for the other guy.

In a poll I saw a few months ago a HUGE majority of Americans said that the single most patriotic act is to vote. I wholeheartedly agree. The freedom of the ballot box- a free and democratic ballot box- is one of the most basic guarantees of the future of our nation. It is absolutely essential, then, that as many people go to vote as humanly possible.

We must not prevent our fellow citizens from voting. On either side. If I am so afraid that an election might go against what I believe that I will keep people from voting I am being incredibly UN-patriotic. One who does that is being un-American.

This may be one of the more important elections in a very long time. The more people who vote the better our chances.
