Though the moon has many seas, scientists thought it was dry.

They were wrong.

Yes, they have found water on the moon in samples brought back on the Apollo missions. Where it came from is unknown. It could have come from earth, where the moon apparently comes from. Or it could have formed as the moon was kicked off the earth. Or....

In any case it is quite a find.
