Needing Nature

I was sitting around looking at the pictures on my wall in my office the other day. They include a great poster of a Jim Brandenburg canoe photo and a poster of my pictures from the Pine Creek Gorge. Suddenly I realized why I have been longing to get down to the Mississippi and take pictures.

I am needing nature.

Especially after this winter when it has been difficult to spend any quality time outside, I find myself missing the "great outdoors." Now that doesn't have to be the Big River, but I haven't spent a lot of time around the Mississippi. When I have it has been nothing short of inspiring. Admittedly I am a water rat. Watching for Bald Eagles along the river or just sitting at some overlook and pondering the greatness of what I am looking at is a spiritual and empowering experience.

Over the past few weeks I have been watching the weather forecasts for my days off- and they haven't always been nice. But Saturday is supposed to be almost 60 degrees and at least partly sunny. The camera is charged and ready. My soul is in need.

River- here I come.
