A Beautiful Morning

Yes. What a beautiful Christmas Easter morning it was. It sure did feel and look a lot more like Christmas as I left home to head to the Dawn Service. The snow was lightly falling just like in all those sentimental Christmas Eve stories. At least in this neck of the woods, Easter when it is this early is not a sure sign of spring. I also thought that if the Resurrection had occurred in a cold northern climate, no one would have been heading to any tomb before sunrise.

It is always interesting, though, to move through these early hours of Easter in our Moravian tradition. From darkness to light in a very short period of time. The sky lightens even with a cloud cover and light snow. Then you arrive at the church where all kinds of activity is going on. Brightness, people, a sense of wonder that we are doing this again- that again and again- He is risen indeed.

The music starts- brass and woodwinds- no organ at dawn. The people sing. The words of ancient creeds and liturgies. We stand and make a clear and concise statement of faith.

This I truly believe.
As we leave it is fully light outside. The world looks different. It isn't hemmed in by how far the headlights shine. The horizon is more distant. We have vision.
