Talking Super

My wife reported to me last week that the most amazing thing happened. She was sitting in a local cafe/diner-kind of place. There was one of the regular group of men sitting nearby having one of their regular conversations about things. It was two days before the Super Bowl. The conversation she discovered to her surprise was not about football and Brady and Manning, et al. It was about Hillary and Barack. One said something to the effect- "Hey, she ran the place for him all those years. She's one smart woman!"

Two days before the BIG sports event of the year the conversation in Minnesota was about the other Super- Super Tuesday!

Amazing.

What is even more amazing is that on our local TV we are getting ads for:

Ron Paul.

In a state with a caucus and no delegates at stake for the Republicans in the caucuses, Ron Paul is advertising. Makes no sense to me. But then again, I guess Mike Gravel is still officially in the race on the Democratic side.

Which brings me to tomorrow. I am actually excited about the possibilities and events of Super Tuesday. Part of that is because I will be attending my local caucus for my precinct/ward. This will be a first. I don't remember the hype and interest in either 2004 or 2000 that I am seeing now. This is potentially (!) a time-shifting political year. It is fun to be a part of it.

The other part is the political junkie in me (after all, I was a poli sci major in college) is just entranced by the whole process. the Democratic lovefest debate last week shifted things a whole new way- at least for the moment. Now that both sides are down to two, the pressure, excitement, and planning takes on a whole new dimension.

So, tomorrow, I will be at my caucus in the evening. I will keep notes and reflections and blog about it no later than Wednesday. Wow. What fun.

And, to show some of my bias- here's a video that I saw on Tony Jones. It expresses the feeling that I have been sensing about this exciting election. Yes, we can. Si, se puede!
