Another Sign of the Times
It was announced last week that Polaroid will stop making and selling instant film next year. They had already stopped manufacturing instant film cameras.
My dad owned one of the very first models of a Polaroid Land Cameras (as they were referred to then in honor of their inventor, Edwin Land.) We used it and we still have pictures that were taken with it in the 50s and 60s. Yes, the colors have faded if they ever were that bright. (The black and whites remain sharp for some reason that may have to do with the technology needed for color.) But I remember the awe and wonder of those magical cameras that broke through the seemingly endless wait for Kodak film to come back from the processors.
The times are changing. A one - five minute wait for the picture is too slow. We can see the picture on the little screen right after it's taken. There are lot more than 8 pictures on the card.
So farewell old Polaroid friend. The times they are a'changing.
