One Week Until Super Tuesday
Well, the campaign just keeps on overwhelming the news these days. Today is another BIG DAY- this one for the GOP in Florida. More newsprint and airtime will be wasted used to explain whatever happens just as it has already been telling us what will happen. But whatever happens will be s surprise or some similar descriptive event.
But then, wow, will things get crazy. Next Tuesday is the REALLY BIG DAY. It will be SUPER. Count them- 22 states will have primaries or caucuses that will give away lots and lots of delegates. And probably no one will be a clear leader. After all, the press will still need to sell airtime and papers.
I happen to live in a caucus state. Next Tuesday I will go to a local school to make my wishes known for the Democratic candidate of my choice. I may even stick around and see what else takes place. This is truly an exciting campaign year. Sadly in the last couple weeks things have gone downhill, though. The negativity and the personal attacks have tarnished the race to a point. When winning becomes so overwhelming (and when you're spending all that money it will become the focus) you may be tempted to do anything to win.
All the candidates are the losers when that happens, of course. But it is not new. Such attacks have been part of the American political scene since John Adams and Thomas Jefferson in the late 1700s. That doesn't make it right or good or healthy, of course, but so far we have managed to survive.
I am intrigued by the caucus system. I will probably take notes and blog about it after it's over. (No live blogging for me at this point. I want to be involved in the discussions.) So, onward into this very interesting political year.
