Veterans' Day 2007
It's not the 11th day of the 11th month anymore. But it is the day after and the "official" federal holiday.
That's how it started with the end of World War I.
But we are in a war again.
Let us not forget those who are serving as well as those who have served.
Pause today for a moment of thanks.

I learned yesterday, or was reminded, that what we call Veteran's Day used to be called Armistice Day. As Armistice Day, it was a day set aside, not so much to honor warriors, but to remind us all of the horrors of war, not so much a flag waving day (with shades of jingoism)but a day of sadness and awareness of the futility of war.
