Quoting My Way To Change

Today they are packing our stuff to be ready to load it all on the semi tomorrow morning. As I get ready for this move and the new adventure ahead I found three quotes from one of my spiritual guides, Anthony de Mello. They speak to me about the changes and the wisdom that can come from living this life.

The first quote reminds me that this life is the one we are given. So let's live it to its fullness.

My experience is that it's precisely the ones who don't know what to do with this life who are all hot and bothered about what they are going to do with another life.
Second, de Mello reminds me that being honest with myself is the beginning of wisdom.
When you come to see you are not as wise today as you thought you were yesterday, you are wiser today.
And finally, I tend to end up looking backward wishing I could change what was by thinking about how I could change others. But it the end all change comes about because someone makes the decision to change themselves. De Mello knew that well.
If it is peace you want, seek to change yourself, not other people. It is easier to protect your feet with slippers than to carpet the whole of the earth.
