Jumping Around Again
Here are some bits and pieces that have grabbed my attention recently....
Patenting the Eternal
Cory Doctorow posted about how India is trying to keep yoga from being controlled and patented.
Western governments are granting patents, trademarks, and copyrights over yoga to con-artists who claim to have invented the millennia-old practice. The Indian government is retaliating by publishing a giant, multi-lingual database of yoga-stuff so that patent examiners can see that "yoga didn't originate in a San Francisco commune."Thank goodness there wasn't a patent or copyright law around when Martin Luther got started. (I was going to write Jon Hus, but I realized that they did the next worst thing to him- he got burned at the stake.)

This One's Cool
Thanks to Noel Heikkinen for this posting.
If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink. If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green. Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating if you’re lucky! It’s amazing how our brain works.
There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don’t disappear. This should be proof enough, we don’t always see what we think we see.

For Photo Lovers
Found a couple of interesting photo related sites. One is Flak Photo a daily photoblog. It has an RSS feed and has wonderful high-quality photos to inspire your own creativity.
The other is the 2007 Photobloggie Awards. They have links to all the many, many Photoblogs out there in the blogosphere as well as to the previous years' awards. Also quite inspiring. So much so that I have now addeed a pmpilgrimPhotoblog to the list of pmPilgrim blogs. As long as I can use the many, many photos I have already taken, it should be fun. And I don't see any reason why I can't use older pictures. After all it will be my photoblog! Visit it soon.

Another From Indexed
Jessica Hagy posted another insightful index card a little while ago. The power of the 60s turned into a sales pitch.

Finally, One Too Sad to Miss
GALVESTON — A woman blames the devil and not her husband for severely burning their infant daughter after the 2-month-old was put in a microwave, a Houston television station reported.
Eva Marie Mauldin said Satan compelled her 19-year-old husband, Joshua Royce Mauldin, to microwave their daughter May 10 because the devil disapproved of Joshua's efforts to become a preacher.
