Isn't THIS Enough? What More Can You Want?
Was thinking this evening about the reaction that I have seen from time to time in people who are truly and deeply faithful. In various forms it goes like this:

  • God promised in the Bible that "whatever you ask in my name, you will receive it."
  • Well, I asked for something that was important and truly special to me and it didn't happen.
  • What have I done wrong? or
  • Perhaps the faith I have trusted isn't really true.
In short, a major crisis of faith usually caused by a serious problem, illness or loss. I've been there with this thinking. Many people I have known have been there. It is one more example of our human ability to mis-interpret scripture. We can't believe that on one hand God is no more than the cosmic clockmaker who set things running and then sits back and watches - or - on the other that God answers all who is at our beck and call for whatever we think we want.

I have a hunch that the answer is neither- and probably not even somewhere in between. It is probably somewhere deep within the mystery of God our creator.

At which point comes the thought out of nowhere:
God gave us Jesus Christ, Salvation, and the Holy Spirit to keep us in touch with Him.

What else is there that we could ever want?
