Well, Not All of Us
The following headline was in the Washington Post online yesterday:

Portrait of a Blogger: Under 30 and Sociable
It then went on to say things like:
  • They consider themselves digital natives.
  • They're young.
  • They're addicted to instant messaging and social networks.
  • And they're more apt to dish about the drama at last night's party than the president's latest faux pas.
I guess there are about 12 million of us and perhaps, according to Technorati, as many as 49 million blogs.

That sure is mind-bloggleing. [Sorry.]

Well, the list of "characteristics" above doesn't fit everyone, of course. There are some of us who do it for a lot of other reasons. It isn't even about numbers (as much) for some of us. With the rise of RSS feeds we don't have any idea how many people are actually reading what we write since, like me, many read from the Bloglines or whatever.
"It astounds me that people are willing to do this stuff without getting paid," Ochman [a business blogger who tracks online trends] said. "I come from a generation that gets paid for our work."
I do consider myself a native of the digital world, though I am nowhere near as broad-based as some of my younger friends might be. Being in the upper end of the 50s doesn't mean dinosaur anymore. (Maybe a more recent extinction like a dodo or carrier pigeon, perhaps.) I am deeply appreciative of the postModern digital world. Instant weather, news, library, all my CDs- all right here.

A lot of bloggers, according to the story, do it to keep their friends and family updated on things. I am not one who shares a lot of personal information. This is more a rambling reflection on life. I post it here instead of keeping it locked away in my Moleskine journal because I enjoy reading these kind of ramblings and insights from other people. Mine may not be very profound most days, but the discipline is great for this slightly ADD old guy.

Anyway, I generally don't go to parties to dish about so I have to find other things to post about. Like this.
