Dick Clark and New Year's Eve
I sit here watching ABC and Dick Clark's annual New Year's Eve show from Times Square. I knew he had a stroke which kept him from doing the show last year. I hadn't realized how serious a stroke it had been until he came on the air tonight. The aphasia from the stroke is still very evident. He looks okay, but after 35 years of doing this show, he has become such a fixture, it's hard to see him like that.
I am old enough to remember him on American Bandstand in the late 50s and 60s. He has been around TV making TV history for a long, long time. He is truly one of the few pioneers of that era left.
He has been called the eternal teenager, but that title may be gone now.
I guess that's one thing about the new year- it is a reminder that eventually we all get older. Even Dick Clark.
