Don't Blink!
I came across this on Seth Godin's blog last week.
When you are sitting right on the edge of something daring and scary and creative and powerful and perhaps wonderful... and you blink and take a step back.I am happy to say that in my recent project and challenges I have been working on, I did not blink. Sometimes however someone else blinks and the moment is gone. You then stand there and ponder what it means for you.
That's the moment. The moment between you and remarkable. Most people blink. Most people get stuck.
All the hard work and preparation and daring and luck is nothing compared with the ability to not blink.

One thing is to trust that sometimes life is more complicated than one would like. Many other factors come into play. Lots of people are involved. When one is part of a team- a connection of people working on a common aim- there are naturally different ways of looking at the outcomes not to mention the thousand and one ways to get there. Sometimes to keep from blinking puts one on a different path. I am convinced that this is OK. That means admitting and accepting powerlessness- there are things beyond one's control. Even when you don't blink at "The Moment."
This is perhaps especially true when one tends to be a pioneer type. Pioneers are not the ones who get the things into reality and a final form. Pioneers, I am told, are passionate people who can sometimes be too passionate. Passion is scary (even to another passionate person.) Passion can turn people off. But the good news is that in most cases somewhere along the line, many of the ideas and dreams of the pioneers become real to others. They settle in and others take them, add flesh to the bones- and off it goes.
Such is the patience and humility needed by the pioneer- to cast the vision, live the passion and then wait to see who picks it up and runs with it.
So perhaps it isn't as complex as it sounds. It's just to trust that God is still in control. It is to know that in the end all we do is what we can do and trust that everything else will work as it is supposed to.
Just remember, though, don't pray for patience or humility. God will most certainly keep you waiting.
