After a Heavy Week of Posts
Monday was heavy- liberty, God and the US. Tuesday and Wednesday were about Independence Day and really made me think. Thursday was my weekly installment on the chruch and ministry. Getting too heavy! Yesterday was really heavy, deep, and profound as I posted about the atonement.
Phew! Enough of all that serious stuff. I want to have some fun.
It's 7/7/07. Sure a lot better than last year's 6/6/06. If I wanted to get profound, deep and numerological (as opposed to illogical) I would say that 7/7/07 is a perfect day. That's what makes 666 so evil- it is short of perfection.
But I won't get into that. Rather, to show, by comparison, how perfect today might very well be, let me start with an item that was posted in the spotlight on Answers.com on Monday. Being an old Phillies Phan who was at the phirst game of that World Series in 1980, this one was almost nostalgic.
Spotlight: Are the Philadelphia Phillies the most phantastic phailures in sports history? Probably not. They were Major League champions only 27 years ago, aphter a 97 year drought. But they're only 3 losses away phrom becoming the phirst prophessional sports phranchise to lose its 10,000th game. They did give us Grover Cleveland Alexander, Richie Ashburn, Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton, but they're sometimes better known phor having probably the most abusive phans and reporters in baseball, and phor the phold of 1964 (they blew a 6.5-game lead with 12 to play, thanks to a 10-game losing streak).Cubs fans, eat your heart out.

At least in Philly there is a supposed reason- The Curse of Billy Penn:
The Curse of William Penn is an alleged curse, sometimes used to explain the failure of professional sports teams based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to win championships since the March 1987 addition of the One Liberty Place skyscraper, which exceeded the height of William Penn's statue atop Philadelphia City Hall. Since then, no Philadelphia major sports team (baseball, football, basketball, or ice hockey) has won a world championship in its respective league. But for sheer longevity and public shame, guilt, and just about everything else, well, I have to go to the Cubs. And one of my favorite fun songs by the late, great singer/songwriter, Steve Goodman. A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request.

Do they still play the blues in Chicago
When baseball season rolls around
When the snow melts away,
Do the Cubbies still play
In their ivy-covered burial ground
When I was a boy they were my pride and joy
But now they only bring fatigue
To the home of the brave
The land of the free
And the doormat of the National League

Then it should be noted that today is the 101st birthday of Negro League great, Satchel Paige.
On this date in 1948, The Indians signed Satchel Paige. Ridiculed as a Bill Veeck publicity stunt, the move pays as the 42-year-old Paige finishes 6-1.
And finally, back to Chicago where in 1993 - Tom Browning decides that he has seen the view from the dugout often enough, so he leaves Wrigley Field and watches the Reds beat the Cubs 4-3 from the roof of a three-story building across Sheffield Avenue. He is fined $500 for leaving the dugout - not to mention the ballpark - during a game. --link to Today in Baseball History
