Now, What Did They Say?
Time for another collection of Quotes to Think By.
Rene Descartes, philosopher, mathematician, scientist and writer, starts us out with a quote that as far as I'm concerned is a true truism:
"If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things."Which leads me to a scientific contrarian, Carl Sagan, who could lead us to new levels of inquiring doubt:
"It is of interest to note that while some dolphins are reported to have learned English -- up to fifty words used in correct context -- no human being has been reported to have learned dolphinese."Prolific American writer and screewriter Rita Mae Brown gives the reason to be searching and digging and writing. And it is all so simple:
"I finally figured out the only reason to be alive is to enjoy it."Then Elias Schwartz whose bio I couldn't find pushes the envelope of (ir)rationality, but still makes sense(?):
"Anything not worth doing is worth not doing well. Think about it."And the great Trappist Monk Thomas Merton, brings this to a close summing up all that these others have said:
"The least of learning is done in the classrooms."
