Super Sunday Review
It's over for another year- that great American ritual known as Super Bowl Sunday. This was number XLI. It's been a long way since Bart Starr, Vince Lombardi and the Packers won the first one way back when I was a freshman in college. Perhaps because I don't live in either Indianapolis or Chicago, the hype didn't seem quite as over the top in the two weeks since the championship games. Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
I thought at first that Da' Bears might surprise the favored Colts. The opening kickoff touchdown run back made it look like it was going to be close. From there on it was a dreary, sloppy game. No one looked all that good. But hey, it was the Super Bowl which is seldom a quality football game anyway. No surprise at the outcome.
Prince was magnificent, however, in spite of the (non-purple) rain. (He's going to be 49 this year. Can you believe that?) Far better than either the Rolling Stones or that year of the "wardrobe malfunction."
By the way...rain? Isn't that why there are so many domed stadiums- so we don't have this happen? That sure didn't help the game any. Might it have been different without the weather? Doubtful. Remember it's Da' Bears who play outside and the Colts inside.
Then there are the ads. Of course they were there. Isn't that why we watch the show?
A tie for my top ads. I laughed hard at these....
- Bud Light: Rock Paper Scissors Beer
- Blockbuster: Mouse
- Snickers: Kiss
- Budweiser: Fake Dalmatian
- Sierra Mist: Karate Class
- American Heart Association: Gotta Have Heart
- Frito-Lay: Enjoy the Game
And finally, to pull at the heartstrings of all us now game-less football fans....
- NFL: It's Hard to Say Goodbye
If you missed any of the ads or want to see them again, go to iFilm
And so it goes. Went. Whatever. Quite a season. Next year- the Pack will be back.
But in the meantime, the pitchers and catchers will soon be arriving at Spring Training, the Daytona 500 is in less than two weeks, Tiger Woods plays all year, and well, there was an ad for March Madness....
