Huh?
Yesterday's Gospel from Luke about being poor didn't get very far at some churches, I am sure. In today's Star Tribune Pastor Marc Hammond of a local mega-church was commenting on an article in the Sunday edition about his prosperity gospel. Here is part of what he had to say:
Hammond said the media and many Christians don't understand the prosperity gospel. "God says if you base your life on his covenant, these blessings are gonna overtake you; you can't do anything about it, friend. [What was once] flocks and herds is in today's parlance stocks and bonds.I am overwhelmed by the belief that wealth will "overtake you" and "you can't do anything about it." I have a hunch he must be some kind of Calvinist. Wealth being for some of that theological bent a sign of God's grace. I wonder how he deals with the overwhelming number of scriptures about the poor? And what about the members of his church who aren't wealthy?
"It takes wealth, folks, to establish God's covenant on this Earth. You and I will never get so spiritual that we don't need money to get more
