Some Listening in New York
I haven't had a chance to post any of the Overheard in New York posts I've been saving for a while. Too many other things have been happening. So, with a quiet holiday weekend where I even got a day off today, here are some that have tickled my fancy. Perhaps we can name it "Tourists Still Inspire the Funniest Things":

Woman: Foreigners are killing this city.
Man: Those people seemed like Americans.
Woman: But they're foreign to New York. Here Comes the Subway
--MoMA

Tourist: Wow, it's like a whole underground city thing here!
Local: I don't know any freaks who would want to live in a city like this.
--Times Square subway station

Guy: Excuse me, miss. Excuse me. Excuse me! Woman, move!
Girl: Dude, I'm not a tourist.
Guy: Oh. Sorry.
--59th St & Lex
And perhaps in some ways we are all tourists on this bus:
Teen girl, observing scantily clothed Inca healer: Gosh, Mom, didn't they have any decency?
Mom: Well, all this was before Adam and Eve.
--Museum of Natural History
