No Matter How Long- Life is Short
Today my dad would have had his 101st birthday. He made only a little over half-way there. He died 42 years ago this December at the age of 59.

For some reason I thought of that a few weeks ago when I heard an interview on NPR with a soldier returned from Iraq. He was one of the lucky ones, he believed. He saw friends and fellow soldiers die. His comment was simply that the one thing he learned in Iraq was that "life is short."

In many ways that was something I came to understand as a teenager. My parents both died young. My mother was 48, my dad 59 at the time of their deaths from cancer. While they seemed "old" to me, I knew they weren't. Life is short.

Do something with it, make it work.
