Shine On, Harvest Moon
I found some interesting and strange things about tonight's big and bright harvest moon. Spaceweather.com linked to a story at NASA about it. For example:
I don't think I ever noticed those things, or at least in my normal state of inattentiveness I never paid attention to them. They are just a few of the many things about the world, cosmos, universe, and just plain everyday human beings that cause one to shake their head in awe. The NASA link above gives some of the reasons for thishaving to do with our human eyes and how they receive and process light.
- Moonlight steals color from whatever it touches.
- If you stare at the gray landscape long enough, it turns blue.
- Moonlight won't let you read.
By the way, the moon's size is almost 12% wider than it has been at other full moons this year because it is at it's closest approach. I guess that means 12% more light? Or doesn't math work that way?
Anyway, if it's clear where you are tonight, go out and enjoy that awesome moon.
