I Don't Get It
I wish someone could explain the incredible fascination with celebrities giving birth. I loved the way it was played in the AP on April 19:

One Down: World Awaits Pitt, Jolie's Baby
By JAKE COYLE - AP Entertainment Writer

NEW YORK (AP) -- One down, one to go. Now that TomKitten has been born, the world still awaits the birth of another superbaby: the expected child of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It's a tabloid editor's dream of a doubleheader - it's a beautiful day, let's play two!
So much print space, so much entertainment news, so much gobbledy-gook over a baby who just happens to have been born to two entertainers who make millions upon millions of dollars and have this incredible PR machine that makes sure they get even better known. Somehow or other I can't fathom the depth or breadth of interest in all of this. What's the big deal?

(Well, I have to admit that I am intrigued by one celebrity birth in recent weeks- the baby eagle Stephen Colbert, Jr. Go to The Colbert Nation for updates. Or go here for the birth announcement.)
