More on Seeing Jesus' Face
I don't usually pick up on a comment on the blog and add some more thoughts to it. But Beth had a good comment on yesterday's post. She went a different direction that I did:
I don't know the rest of the song, but those lines actually made me think of the opposite. I know too many people who just want God to show up and do things for them, but they never want to share Christ's love or serve Him.To which I can say I also agree. I also wondered abut that interpretation of the words and I can also agree that this is probably the most common misuse and abuse of the presence of Jesus' in people's lives. It's the old It's just Jesus and me syndrome that leads to self-righteousness and all other kinds of sins of pride. It is a real and present danger in the church as it makes those on the "inside" feel superior instead of just graced. These words can easily- VERY EASILY- be read that way.
But that isn't what hit me. I heard them saying, in essence:
I've heard all the words,That's what people need. To see, meet, feel, and hear Jesus, not my words and wordy interpretation.
I know what they mean,
They are driving me insane
Because that's all they are
Empty words.
Show me Jesus.
Let me see His face.
Show me Jesus and not just your words
Show me Jesus
Let me see his face
Show me Jesus and stop hiding him in your masks.
Live like Jesus so I can see
Jesus' face in yours.
Speak His words so I can hear
Jesus' voice in yours.
Act like Jesus so I can feel
Jesus' touch in yours.
Show me Jesus.
Let me see His face.
(Interpretations all mine. Not the song!)
So Beth, thanks. I agree 100% with you and you inspired me to write what I just wrote.
Now, if only I can learn more fully how to do that in what I do every day. I guess that is the walk of being a disciple- a weak, imperfect and still learning disciple.
