A Few Fine Quotes to Ponder
First, from Mhatama Ghandi, great pacifist and religious leader in India:

Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.
The paradox of being at one and the same time important and insignificant is one that humans have pondered and wrestled with for millenia. The story of Jacob wrestling with an angel and "winning" which gave him his new name, Israel is one example. The musing of David in Psalm 8 about why would God even care about us when we are so tiny in the great universe. But to allow that to lull us into doing nothing, being apathetic or downright uncaring about others is not an option. Which brings us to....

Second, from Irish dramatist Sean O'Casey:
All the world's a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.
This reminds me of a button I saw once- "Life is NOT a dress rehearsal." What we do here is what it's all about for us, even if we are ultimately insignificant. We ad lib and play it by ear day in and day out. We have guidelines to follow and history to teach us if we would only listen.

And finally, from engineer and Sci-fi author David Brin:
It is said that power corrupts, but actually it's more true that power attracts the corruptible. The sane are usually attracted by other things than power.
Which as some comedian has said about voting for candidates for president- why vote for someone who actually WANTS the job?
