Another Insight Into The Big Book
The following caught my eye as I was surfing. It was posted by Brad at 21st Century Reformation. He was answering the question about the last book he had read:

The 12 Steps and the 12 Traditions and the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Big Book is both a great discipleship manual and a great biography. Just a note: I read some of the 12 and 12 this morning and tend to read Big Book pretty regularly. If you know how to decipher the Big Book, I think it is a fantasitc application of the Sermon on the Mount.
I had never thought about the Big Book of AA and the 12-step program in quite that way before. While I have seen many times how the 12-step programs are successful because of the way they develop the support and recovery process. To see it as an application of the Sermon on the Mount? I'm going to have to do some serious thinking about this. I will definitely agree that it is a discipleship manual.
