Two Bits - of Interest

First, from the New York Times, news about the news on the network that invented quality news, CBS:
CBS, the home of the most celebrated news division in broadcasting, has been in discussions with Time Warner about a deal to outsource some of its news-gathering operations to CNN, two executives briefed on the matter said Monday.
Edward R. Murrow et. al are rolling over in their graves. They've sure lost a great deal.

And from the world of The Arts, namely the Pulitzer Prize:
SPECIAL CITATION

A Special Citation to Bob Dylan for his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.

FICTION

For distinguished fiction by an American author, preferably dealing with American life.
Awarded to "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" by Junot Diaz (Riverhead Books).
I'm impressed. Dylan has broken through in a truly powerful way. Not that he hasn't earned it. His poetry has as much power as any other poetry ever written. It is his own unique style, and set to music, but it is as worthy of a Pulitzer as anyone ever has been. After all, it's not given for his ability to mumble.

And Junot Diaz. What an excellent and haunting book. Yes. It is of high caliber.
