Roman Coin a Surprising Find: Hints at Star of Bethlehem
The British-Roman Association of Neo-Classical History has announced a unique and exciting find. While digging in an ancient archaeological site identified as a primitive Roman “bank” a previously unknown Roman coin was discovered. While such finds are not common, neither are they considered particularly unusual. What marks this coin as unusual, and exciting, was the engraving on the rear side of the coin. While the face side contained one of the normal and well known images of Caesar, the reverse had the image of a large star.
Dr. R. Hugh Riley, an archaeologist on the dig, said that for the first time “we have evidence that an event took place in the heavens that had the world taking notice. The coin commemorates an unusual celestial event. The star depicted is not just an ordinary star.”
When pressed, Riley said it was impossible to know for certain that the star depicted on the coin is the Star of Bethlehem which led the Wise Men to the infant Jesus. "While any scientist worth his salt would never make that claim," Riley commented, "the image does lead us to consider that as one serious possibility."
When asked how they were able to be sure that it depicted the star mentioned in Scripture, Riley replied, “The dating on this coin was clear. In an unusual style, the Roman numeral ‘III’ followed by 'aX' which is ante-Christus or, before Christ.”
