The Grandfatherly Side
It was a compliment. I know it was. There wasn't a hint of sarcasm or meanness. But it was a jaw-dropping moment. We were doing a check-in as part of a group training event. The question we were responding to involved telling three other group members what we were impressed with about them.
One comment was the hit up the side of the head. I was told that I was gentle and caring and someone to be able to talk to. I was "grandfatherly."
Yes, I am old enough to be one. I probably have been (old enough) for many years, although I am not one. But I sure don't think of myself that way. Until now.
