Back to the Movies
It's been awhile but my daughter and I made it to the movies last night. This was to see Ralph Fiennes in the movie version of John Le Carre's The Constant Gardener. It was worth it. An awesome movie showcasing Fiennes remarkable abilities.

Fortunately I read one of the previews and was prepared to catch one of the more remarkable sequences. It is near the beginning when Fiennes character is being told of the death of his wife. (Not a spoiler.) The camera remains on Fiennes with no camera movement whatsoever. It is a long scene with the voice of Fiennes friend giving him the news. The facial features, the small changes in expression, the ability to say so much with so little are all remarkable.

Overall, it is a class work. The variations in cinematography and color and cuts from scene to scene; the color and intensity of Africa; the soundtrack never fails to inspire and pull you into the action; the amazing acting- these make for a remarkable film. There is a little bit of "preachiness" toward the end but that is easily forgiven in the midst of an otherwise fine film.
