A First Spring Day
Yesterday was a truly remarkable day for March 6. The sun was out, the sky was blue, and the thermometer in my Twin Cities MINNESOTA suburb soared to over 60 degrees. It was truly a first spring day. I couldn't resist the temptation. I needed to play in the soil- the dirt- the earth. That's hard to do in March so I did the next best thing. I repotted some of my houseplants. I set up my work table in the garage, door open wide, kids playing kick ball across the street, little kids riding tricycles in the cul-de-sac, and I got my hands dirty in the earth. (Even if it did come from a potting soil bag, it was still soil.)

I had a psychologist friend who used to say that one of his sure-fire methods of dealing with situational depression was to get out and work in the yard. There is something healing about getting your hands into the soil, working with plants and water. The sun and warmth helped a lot. It was just awesome as this may have been the earliest I have ever done this spring repotting.

But alas, it was but a tease. Today it was only in the 20s with wind chills in the teens and lower.

No, it wasn't a tease. It was a promise.
